Changes to RVS / User Levels

Fellow Presearchers,

Many of you have shared your concerns with us at times about the Reward Verification System (RVS) and associated User Levels since they were launched in early 2019.

One of the challenges of operating a platform that shares cryptocurrency rewards with community members who use the search engine is that unfortunately it also attracts people who abuse the system and break the Terms of Service in order to gain tokens through fraudulent means (such as duplicate accounts, bots, and bogus searches). The RVS served its purpose for a time to minimize fraud, but by assigning “levels” to users it can also create significant frustration for community members when their levels decrease and even make people feel they are being “penalized” for using the search engine more.

As per our Mainnet launch roadmap, we are currently replacing the RVS with a new system that incorporates our latest thinking about how to prevent abuse while simultaneously optimizing for a highly positive user experience.

Though the new system is still being built, we are already starting to phase out the legacy RVS across the Presearch user experience, so that it will not raise so many questions and concerns.

Effective immediately, we are no longer displaying user levels across the site on the ‘My Account’ page, ‘Withdrawal’ pages, and other user info sections. The RVS and user levels are still being used to protect the platform on the back end for now, but this will be changed as soon as possible when the new system rolls out.

The new system, coupled with the upcoming rewards model enhancements, will ultimately also enable us to lower withdrawal thresholds when the transition to the new system is complete.

For now, we wanted to mainly communicate the User Levels are beginning to go away, starting with the user experience now and following with the backend once the new fraud detection system is fully live.

We will keep you updated on the progress via this post. Thank you for your patience and understanding in the meantime during the transition.
